So, I don’t know about you guys but for a while I’ve been obsessed with wanting bigger lips. Hell, even my boyfriend has nicer lips than I do, how is that fair?! So with this in mind I grappled with the idea of going for lip fillers. There is something that keeps holding me back. Maybe it’s the thought of pain or knowing that as a full time university student on a casual sales assistant salary I cannot really afford to fork out $645 for 1ml of dermal filler.
I decided to have a look for a less expensive way of achieving fuller lips. Everyone who’s anyone heard of the hype around Kylie Jenner and her big lips. People went as far as trying crazy contraptions such as Candylipz to enhance their lip size. I wasn’t so keen to try this suction device so I went on the hunt for the perfect lip plumping lip-gloss.
There are plenty out there from Victoria’s Secret Extreme Lip Plumper to Mac Cosmetics Plushglass lip gloss, which aim to plump your lips. I decided on Too Faced Lip Injection from Mecca Maxima. It was either go hard or go home so I went for the extreme formula hoping for a significant difference.
As per written on the box, it is advertised as an “instant and long term lip plumper”. Applying both day and night “to naturally and dramatically hydrate, nourish and increase lip volume”.
I was so excited to try it that as soon as I walked out of the store I went straight to the bathroom with my friends and layered it on. At first I didn’t know exactly what to expect. I waited a few minutes and couldn’t feel anything. I was about to fall into major disappointment and then the tingling began to happen. The tingling turned into a hot itchy sensation that lasted for a few minutes. My friends were convinced it had made a difference but I still wasn’t 100% sure.
Not wanting to give up just yet on something I had spent money on I decided to try it over a period of three consecutive days to see if it made a difference. So each day I took a photo before I applied the gloss and after the tingling stopped.
Day One: before and after
Day Two: before and after
Day Three: before and after
My verdict, it made a minor and temporary difference each time I used it but I don’t think it made my lips bigger permanently. The tingling and itching is bearable and it has a sweet smell, which to me was overbearing and reminded me of medicated syrup but that’s just a personal opinion. I don’t think I will buy it again but I was glad I gave it a go.
Guess it’s back to the drawing board!
Do you have any suggestions on what to try next?
